城阙辅三秦，风烟望五津。与君离别意，同是宦游人。海内存知己，天涯若比邻。无为在歧路，儿女共沾巾。

王勃（650—676），字子安，绛州龙门县（今山西省河津市）人。唐朝文学家，儒客大家，与杨炯、卢照邻、骆宾王共称“初唐四杰”。

WANG Bo (650-676), styled Zi’an, a native of Longmen, Jiangzhou (present-day Hejin, Shanxi Province), a litterateur and great Confucianist in the Tang dynasty. The poet and the other three, Yang Jiong, Lu Zhaolin and Luo Binwang, have been known as “Four Great Poetsof Early Tang Dynasty”. (温建英译)

For river shores where mist veils all.

On parting, I feel sad at heart:

Our hometowns are so far apart.

If you’ve on earth a bosom friend,

He is near tho’ at the world’s end.

At crossroads where we say adieu;

Do not shed tears like women do.
